NORTHPORT VILLAGE: The first Northport Village StorySLAM- a storytelling event inspired by The Moth, took place on September 26, 2021, and by all indicators-the event was a great success. The evening touched the hearts and minds of both the audience members and storytellers. With the goodwill and interest generated from the night, the event’s organizer, Liz Alexander, decided to build on that momentum to bring live storytelling events to Northport Village on a regular basis. “This genre of storytelling motivates me to create platforms for stories to be told. They have the power to draw out our empathy, provide comic relief, remind us of our humanity, bridge divides, and offer perspective on our internal and external worlds,” stated Liz Alexander. The style of storytelling is described as true narratives, of personal experiences, lived by the storyteller. The stories are crafted based on a selected theme and told-not read-before a live audience.
